Studied:self-taught. Member:Boston AC. Exhibited: Leonard Auction Rooms; Boston AC; Mechanics Inst., Boston; Brooklyn AA; NAD. Work: PeabodyMus., Salem; Boston Athanaeum; Brooklyn Mus.; PortlandMA. Note: Webber served in the Civil War and was presentat General Lees surrender at Appomattox. His sketches andfinished illustrations of the event were shown at the BostonArt Club and brought him his first public recognition. Theywere published as wood engravings in Harpers Weekly, andas lithographs by J. H. Bufford, BostonFrame measures 24" high by 30 inches long. Canvas measures 18 inches by 25". Gold leaf frame.

This "antique portrait painting" is very well executed but unsigned. It was painted in the eighteenth century. The gentleman has a pleasant face with great detail.This portrait is in excellent condition on its original stretcher. The canvas has been professionally cleaned. Canvas measures 25 inches by 30 inches,the frame measures 30 and one quarter inches by 35 and one quarter inches.The portrait was a bequest to the present owner from the estate of Mrs. Bayfille C Clark of Somerset Bermuda. Mrs Clark inherited the painting from her mother,Mrs Herbert Davis of Nantucket. Mrs Davis was the sister of the late Charles C Mott a founder of the GM corporation.
