- - - - - - | Alaskan Eskimo art Scene Oil on Canvas by Colcord Rusty Heurlin Item # 2790 Click HERE to inquire about this item Eskimo art, This Eskimo painting by "Colcord Heurlin" or Rusty his nick name, measures 22 and one half inches wide by 18 and one half inches tall outside of the frame. This painting has the most wonderful pastel palette and it depicts and Eskimo sitting on ice during the day ice fishing for tomcod. He has just caught a fish that is splashing out of water as he trys to land in. This wonderful painting measures 18 inches wide by 16 inches tall. Colcord "Rusty" Heurlin was born in Christanstad, Sweden, to American parents. He was raised in Wakefield, Massachusetts. He attended art classes at the Fenway School of Illustration in Boston. In 1916 he went to Valdez, served in WWI in Europe and didn't return to Alaska until 1924, where he made his home in Ester, near Fairbanks. During the time between World War I and 1924, he worked as an Illustrator-artist for New York magazines, while he lived in Westport, Connecticut. Heurlin was known for his pastel palette and fall color backgrounds. Good original condition no holes or relining.The painting has only just recently been professionally cleaned and there is no paint loss or chipping paint. The painting does not need restoration. There is some cracqueluer which we show in the photographs provided. Shipping extra. Connecticut residents and buyers picking up in Connecticut add 6% state sales tax. These antique oil paintings measure 19 and seven eighths inches wide by 24 and five eighths inches outside of the frame. The images of these antique oil paintings are in excellent condition and and are Mr. & Mrs. Gardner of Wakefield, RI (she was a language arts teacher).
Each measure 19 inches by 14 and one quarter inches. These are very well done portraits. Morgan Rhees was a painter of the late 19th Century.Addresses: Wheeling, WV 1883, Boston, MA., active 1886 to 1893. - - - - - - - - | Clark Vorhees Old Lyme Impressionist landscape painting Item # 3854 Click HERE to inquire about this item Clark Vorhees Old Lyme Impressionist landscape painting. This is a Vorhees masterpiece. Clark G Voorhees was born in 1871 and died in 1933. He was the first artist to discover Old Lyme in 1896 while on bicycle and he stayed at the Griswold House,Which Miss Florence Griswold had only just recently opened to boarders. He painted with many of the most famous Old Lyme Artists of the early 20th century. For a picture of Voorhees or more information on the artist see Connecticut and American Impressionism page 120,176, Miss Florence and The Artists of Old Lyme page 40,64, Who Was Who in American Art page 3424. This wonderful Voorhees painting has its original Newcomb Macklin Co frame which is signed on the back.The painting measures 36 inches wide by 27 and three quarters inches high and the original frame measures 45 inches wide by 37 and one half inches. The painting came from an Old Lyme Estate. It was originally purchased In a Madison Ave gallery in the 1960 period. Condition,there is 12 to 15 percent inpainting in the white sky area it has been relined. The restoration was done to Museum standards and could be reversed. The painting was stored for 25 years in a locker and suffered some paint loss but not in the detailed areas of the painting and the signature is original. This painting has not been on the market since the 1960's. The painting depicts a still quiet afternoon view of the Lyme hills with long vistas. Shades of white on green,mauve,lavender and pale gold,and dappled light. Vorhees paintings of this size are rare and near impossible to find.
