Early charcoal portraits Man and Wife c1790. This wonderful pair of early portraits were done in charcoal. Unsigned. The portraits are in period frames with original blown glass and paper mate. The images were not glued down but just taped to the mate. The portraits each measure 9 by 11 inches and the original fruitwood frames each measure 15 and three quarters by 19 and one half. The man has what looks like a card in his hand and the woman some needlework. The appear to be American but we are not positive.

Blue Bird watercolor signed artist "Guy Lipscombe" c1930 to 1939. Guy Lipscombe is well known for his depiction of the "Blue Bird" a Dusenberg that was a famous racing car. This wonderful painting depicts the Blue Bird passing a train in this distance proving its capability of great speed. The artists execution of real life racing drama in this piece is as good as it gets. Notice the drivers facial expression along with the action of the wheels of the car and the smoke coming from the train as it speeds across the country side. This rare and vintage combination of watercolor and gouache painting measures 20 and one half inches high and is 26 and one half inches wide, outside of the frame. The image of this antique watercolor measures 20 and one quarter inches wide and is 14 inches high. Signed Guy Lipscombe lower right. Guy Lipscombe is referenced in"Art and the Automobile" by D.B. Tubbs Published by Brosset and Dunlap NY c1978. Guy Lipscombe was one of the earliest motoring artists. Born circa 1883. He took charge of the art department for The Motor magazine in about 1903. He was the first to paint cars on the Brooklands banking.
